How do I connect my ad account to Clickmax?
Go to Traffic → Accounts and click Connect account. Pick Meta Ads or Google Ads, authorize the access on the platform itself, and Clickmax starts importing your campaign spend.
The connection uses OAuth 2.0 and asks for read permissions only: Clickmax never creates, pauses or changes anything in your ad accounts.
Before you start
- A workspace role that reaches the Traffic area — see Traffic.
- Whoever authorizes needs access to that ad account on the platform itself. Clickmax sees exactly what they see, nothing more.
- The area is still rolling out. If Traffic does not show up in your menu, contact support.
Step by step
- Go to Traffic and click Accounts.
- Click Connect account.
- Pick the platform and click Connect. You leave Clickmax and land on the platform's authorization screen.
- Sign in with the account that has access to the ads and confirm the permissions.
- You come back to the same Clickmax screen, with the outcome at the top.
What happens next depends on how many accounts your authorization reaches:
- A single account — it starts syncing right away, and the first import begins within seconds.
- More than one account — they all show up in the list, but none starts syncing. That is deliberate: an agency authorization can reveal dozens of accounts, and importing all of them would burn the platform's query limit on data nobody asked for.
Choosing which accounts to sync
Under Traffic → Accounts, click View details on the account you want and turn on the Sync switch. Only accounts with that switch on feed the Ads dashboard. To force an import for a single account, see How do I sync or review a single ad account?.
The first import brings the last 90 days. After that, each run rewrites the last 28 days — that is the window in which the platforms still adjust past numbers, so recent history keeps correcting itself.
What differs between Meta Ads and Google Ads
Performance Max campaigns
Google does not expose the ads inside a Performance Max campaign. On the By Campaign tab, those campaigns carry the No ad-level detail badge and do not expand.
Their spend is correct and counts toward every total — what does not exist is the creative ranking inside the campaign. It is neither missing data nor a broken sync.
Reconnecting or disconnecting
Reconnecting is the same path as connecting: Connect account again, same platform. The account keeps all the history already imported and goes back to updating.
To stop importing, open the account detail and click Disconnect. The account stops syncing and the history already imported is preserved — the connection can be redone at any time.
If it did not work
- "You cancelled the authorization." Someone closed or declined the platform screen. Start over.
- "The connection request expired." The return path is short-lived. Click Connect account again and finish without stopping halfway.
- "We could not complete the connection." Try once more. If it repeats, check that the person who authorized has access to the ad account on the platform.
- I connected and the list is empty. The authorization came from an account that reaches no ad accounts. On Google, check that it has access to the right manager account; on Meta, to the right Business Manager.
- The account shows Authorization expired or No access. Reconnect it. On Meta that is expected every 60 days; on Google it means someone removed Clickmax's access from the Google side.
- I connected but the dashboard is still empty. Check the Sync switch in the account detail and follow the first import under Audit.
