How do I reply to social media comments with AI?
Create an automation with three steps: the Social comment received trigger, the Ask the AI step and the Reply to social comment step. On each new comment, the AI agent reads the comment text and writes the reply, and Clickmax posts that reply under the comment from your account.
Role: any member with edit access in the workspace.
Before you start
- The account must be connected in Settings → Accounts center → Social media — see How do I connect Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn to Clickmax?. The networks and accounts covered are in What happens to comments on my social media posts?.
- You need a published AI agent in Settings → Account Center → My agents — see how to create an AI agent with your own key.
1. Create the automation
From the template, which comes with the three steps already connected:
- In Automations, click Create automation and choose the Templates card.
- Choose Responder comentários com IA and click Continue.
- Check the name and the project and import. The automation opens as a draft.
Or from scratch:
- In Create automation, choose From scratch.
- On the start trigger, in the Social category, choose Social comment received.
- Click + after the trigger and, in the Integrations section, choose Ask the AI.
- Click + after Ask the AI and choose Reply to social comment. In Reply, use only the
{{aiReply}}variable.
2. Choose the AI agent
- Click the Ask the AI step.
- In AI agent, choose a published agent. In the template this field is empty, because the agent belongs to your workspace.
- In Instructions for the AI, say how to reply. The template already has instructions, in Portuguese: reply briefly (up to 2 sentences), politely and in the language of the comment. Rewrite them in your language if you prefer.
3. Set the filters (optional)
Click the trigger and check that it is Social comment received. All filters are optional; empty replies to any comment:
- Social account — only comments on that account.
- Network — only comments on that network.
- Comment keyword — only comments with the chosen text.
4. Turn it on
Save and publish the automation. From then on, each new comment that passes the filters gets a reply.
What the AI receives
- The comment text. It is the message the AI replies to.
- The post text, if the instructions ask for it. The template instructions include
{{$trigger.postContent}}, which is replaced with the post text. If the network does not send the post text, that part stays empty. In an automation built from scratch, write{{$trigger.postContent}}in the instructions so the AI sees the post.
If the AI does not answer (paused agent, invalid key or provider down), {{aiReply}} stays empty and no reply is posted.
How the reply is posted
- One public reply per comment. Each comment starts the automation once, and the reply step does not post twice, even when it retries.
- Long text is cut at the network limit, at the end of a word. The limits are in How do I reply automatically to comments on my social media posts?. The TikTok limit is short, so ask for short replies in the instructions.
- Lead timeline: the comment shows as Commented on a post (Social), the posted reply as Comment replied (Social) and a reply rejected by the network as Comment reply failed.
Instagram connected twice
If the Instagram account is also connected in the Instagram channel in Messaging (Instagram Direct), the Instagram comment trigger and the Social comment received trigger both fire for the same comment. Use only one of them, or the comment gets two replies. The same goes for two active automations with the Social comment received trigger and filters that match the same comment.
To avoid replying many times to the same person
Each comment gets one reply. If the same person comments ten times, they get ten replies. To limit this, use the trigger cooldown:
- On the trigger card, click the cooldown chip (every new automation comes with Cooldown: 1 hour).
- In the Lead cooldown window, choose the period and click Save. Within it, the same person does not enter the automation again, so their next comments get no automatic reply.
If it did not work
- No reply was posted: check that the Ask the AI step has an agent chosen and that the agent is published. Then look for Comment reply failed on the lead timeline.
- The automation did not start: see How do I reply automatically to comments on my social media posts?, section If it did not work.
