How to see what a contact browsed before identifying themselves
Open the contact record and click the Navigation tab of the summary. It shows what the person did before becoming a contact: which channel and campaign brought them, how many visits they made until they identified themselves and which pages they viewed on each one — for example, "came from ad X and read the pricing page three times before submitting the form".
Before you start
- A workspace role with access to the Visitors screen. Without that access the Navigation tab does not show up.
- Browsing only exists for contacts who identified themselves on a page with tracking enabled. Someone added by spreadsheet import or manual entry has no recorded visits.
Steps
- Open the contact record.
- In the summary, click the Navigation tab.
- Each device the person was recognized on has its own block (Device 1, Device 2…). The code next to it links to the full detail of that visitor.
- Under Origin (first click) you see the channel, campaign and date of that device's first visit.
- Below it, the line "X of Y sessions before becoming a contact" and the date the person identified themselves.
- The list shows the visits before identification, newest first, each with its channel and the pages viewed in order.
Confirmed or probable link
Each device shows how certain its link to the contact is:
Hover the badge to see how the link was made. Read the browsing of a probable link more carefully: it is very likely the person's, but they were not the one who typed their details on that device.
Ad click IDs
When the first visit came from an ad, the origin also shows the platform click ID (Meta, Google, TikTok or Microsoft) — the code the platform adds to the ad link. Use it to find that click in your ad manager.
Current limits
- Up to 10 devices per contact.
- For each device, the 10 visits closest to identification show, with up to 20 pages per visit. Older ones stay in the visitor detail.
