How many of my referrals become subscribers, and how fast?
The Cohort tab in Refer & Earn groups your referrals by the week (or month) they joined through your link — each group is a cohort — and shows, column by column, how much of each cohort has already reached Free, Trial and Subscriber. Use it to compare which cohorts, campaigns or automations convert better and how quickly.
Required role: any workspace member can open the tab.
Open the matrix
- Open Refer & Earn → Cohort.
- In the top-right corner, choose By week or By month.
- Above the matrix, pick the stage to show: Free, Trial or Subscriber. The tab opens on Subscriber.
How to read the matrix
- Each row is a cohort: the referrals who joined in that week or month. The Referrals column shows how many.
- Each column is time since joining: the first column is the first week (or month) after joining, the next one the second, and so on.
- Cells are cumulative: they show how much of the cohort had already reached the stage by that column, so values never go down along a row. The difference between two neighbouring columns is how many converted in that period.
- Recent cohorts have fewer columns: a period that has not finished yet is blank, not zero.
- The last column, To date, shows how much of the cohort has reached the stage so far, including the week (or month) in progress. A cohort that joined this week already has it filled.
- Stages are nested: someone who paid straight away also counts in Free and Trial.
The cards above the matrix use the To date column and add up every cohort in the current filter: Referrals, Reached Free, Reached trial and Became subscribers, each with its share of the total.
Who is in a cohort
Cohorts use the same referrals as the Conversions tab:
- accounts created through your referral link, while the link to you is active;
- contacts who went through checkout from one of your links but have not opened an account.
Contacts without an account count toward the cohort total but do not move through the stages.
Filter by campaign or automation
- Campaign (offer): shows only referrals who joined through a specific offer.
- Automation: links sent by flows are identified by the checkout UTMs. Use the utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign and utm_term filters to isolate the referrals from one automation — add UTMs to the links the flow sends.
- Joined through referral: limits cohorts to a range of joining dates.
Referrals without UTMs show up when no UTM filter is applied and are hidden when one is.
The Cohort tab ignores the period selector used by the other tabs: it filters by the date each referral joined. The filters, grouping and stage are kept in the page address, so you can share the link and the other person opens the same matrix.
