  • How to choose the card order inside a pipeline column

By default, cards stay where you dragged them. If you would rather have the column organize itself — for example, keeping whoever has been waiting longest at the top — pick one of the automatic rules under Sorting, inside the board settings.

The order you pick is yours: it applies to every column in that pipeline, and only you see it. Your teammates keep seeing the pipeline in whichever order each of them picked.

    Before you start

    • Role: anyone who works the pipeline can pick their own order.
    • You need the pipeline board open.

    Pick the order

    1. At the top of the board, click the gear icon, to the left of Create opportunity.
    2. Pick Sorting. A list of the available rules opens.
    3. Pick one of the options. The column reorders right away.

While an automatic rule is active, a dark dot shows in the gear's corner — that is how you notice, without opening anything, that the column is no longer in the order you dragged. On Manual order, the default, there is no dot.

Your choice is stored in the browser you are using. If you sign in from another computer, or from a private window, the pipeline goes back to the default there until you pick again.

    The options

    OptionHow the column looks
Manual orderCards stay exactly where you dragged them. This is the default.
Newest firstBy card creation date, newest to oldest.
Oldest firstBy creation date, oldest to newest. Handy for working in arrival order.
Longest in stageBy when the card entered that stage. Whoever has been waiting longest moves up.
Newest in stageThe opposite: whoever just entered the stage shows up on top.

    Setting the pipeline default

Whoever administers the pipeline sees Set as the pipeline default at the bottom of the same menu. It saves the rule currently in effect as the order everyone finds when they open that pipeline for the first time.

It does not override anyone's choice: people who already picked their own order keep it. The default only applies to those who have not picked their own rule yet.

    What changes about dragging

With Manual order, nothing changes: you keep dragging cards freely within a column and across columns.

With any automatic rule, dragging within the same column no longer applies — the rule decides the position, so the card snaps back and a notice explains why. Moving a card to another column keeps working normally, because that changes the stage, not the order.

Your manual order is not lost: switching back to Manual order brings the column back exactly as you left it.
