How to choose who receives an email broadcast with invalid or risky emails
When the list of an email broadcast has contacts with an Invalid, Unverified or Risky email, the warning Review N recipient(s) before sending appears next to the recipient count. Click Review recipients to see each contact and decide, one by one, who receives this message. Sending is never blocked: reviewing is optional.
Prerequisite: a role that can create email broadcasts. Revalidate requires the owner, admin, editor or attendant role; for other roles, the platform tells you your role can't validate the email.
Why review
Sending to addresses that don't exist causes bounces. Many bounces hurt your sender reputation, and your next emails land in spam more often — even for contacts with a correct email. What each status means is in What the contact's email validation status means.
Steps
- In the email broadcast, under recipients, select the lists.
- If the warning Review N recipient(s) before sending appears, read the total for each situation. Clicking one of the lines opens the review straight on that status's tab.
- To clean everything at once, check Don't send to invalid and unverified. Risky contacts still receive it.
- To decide case by case, click Review recipients. The review opens on the side with the Invalid, Unverified and Risky tabs.
- On each contact, use the Receives / Doesn't receive toggle to include or remove it from this send. You can keep a contact even with Don't send to invalid and unverified checked, and you can remove Risky contacts, which the bulk cleanup doesn't reach.
- If the email is mistyped, click it, fix it and confirm. The contact becomes Unverified and a new verification happens in a moment.
- To check an address again, click Revalidate. To see the full contact, click Open contact (opens in another tab).
- Use Search by name or email to find a specific contact and Load more to see the rest of the list.
- Check the summary at the bottom (N recipient(s) will be left out of this send.) and click Done. The same summary appears in the warning.
What your choices change
- Your choices apply only to this broadcast. They don't change the contact, the list or other sends.
- Fixing the email and revalidating change the contact — the new email and the new status apply across the platform.
- Changing the broadcast's lists discards the one-by-one choices, because they were made about the previous list. Don't send to invalid and unverified stays checked.
If it didn't work
- The warning says "List too large to count before sending" — the list is too large to count in time. The review and the bulk cleanup still work; only the numbers don't show.
- "Too many validations in a row. Wait a minute and try again." — there's a limit on revalidations per minute. Wait a bit and click Revalidate again.
- A tab's number didn't change right after revalidating — the count can take a few seconds to update. The contact's status in the list is already the new one.
- "We couldn't load these contacts right now." — the lookup took longer than expected. Try again in a moment; meanwhile, the bulk cleanup is still available.
