Connect Instagram
Connect an Instagram professional account under Settings → Connections → Instagram and authorise Clickmax with Meta. Once connected, DMs arrive in the LiveChat and Instagram becomes available as a trigger and an action in automations.
Before you start
- Role: access to Settings → Connections (connecting needs no specific role).
- Plan: connecting is available on any plan; sending Instagram messages consumes credits.
- An Instagram professional account (Business or Creator) — a personal account is not accepted.
- Access to authorise the connection with Meta (the Instagram login, or the linked Facebook one).
- Permission to manage direct messages on that account.
Steps
- Go to Settings → Connections → Instagram and start Connect Instagram.
- On the prerequisites step, review the list and start.
- Wait through provisioning — Clickmax prepares the channel and generates the Meta authorisation link (a few seconds).
- On the authorisation step, authorise Instagram. A Meta popup opens. (If the popup is blocked, use the link to open it in a new tab.)
- In the popup, sign in with the Instagram account (or the linked Facebook one), pick the account and approve the direct message permissions.
- Come back to Clickmax and wait — the connection completes on its own. If it stalls, check again or reopen the authorisation (the wizard waits up to 10 minutes).
- The final step confirms the account is connected.
If the account is already connected to another Clickmax account, the wizard offers to move it here — the other connection is disconnected, and that cannot be undone.
If the connection loses access
A connection can lose access to the account — for example when Clickmax access is removed in the Instagram settings, or when the account goes unused for a long time. When that happens:
- under Settings → Connections, the connection shows an error and the message "The Instagram connection lost access";
- DMs stop arriving in the LiveChat;
- automations with an Instagram trigger or action stop replying to comments and DMs.
To restore it, reconnect the account: under Settings → Connections → Instagram, open the connection showing the error and click Reconnect account. You run the Meta authorisation again (the same steps above). Authorise the same account — the same connection comes back: conversations, history and automations stay as they were, nothing has to be rebuilt.
If you use Connect account instead of Reconnect account and authorise an account that is already in the list, the existing connection is the one that comes back — no second connection of the same account is created.
While the authorisation is open, the connection is listed as Reauthorisation in progress and cannot be cancelled from there: its conversations and automations are still inside it. If you authorise a different account instead of this connection's account, the reauthorisation is refused and the connection goes back to showing the error — authorise the same account, or use Connect account to connect the other one separately.
Comments and DMs received while access was down are not replied to afterwards: automations do not reprocess what failed. Reply to those people from the LiveChat if you need to.

If it didn't work
- The authorisation could not be completed — usually the account is not a professional one (Business or Creator). Check the account type in Instagram and try again.
- Message receiving could not be enabled — the account is usually still connected to another platform (ManyChat, Take Blip and similar). Disconnect it there and try again.
- The Instagram connection lost access — the account has to be reconnected, see If the connection loses access.
- No access to Settings → Connections? See no permission.
