Why does the buyer leave the funnel or land on the default thank-you page?
The canvas shows the funnel as you drew it, and funnel diagnostics shows how it will behave. Each issue says what is wrong, what happens to the buyer, and how to fix it.
Role: anyone who edits the funnel sees the diagnostics. See permissions.
Steps
- Open the funnel in edit mode. If there is any issue, the diagnostics button shows next to Publish, with the number of issues that affect the buyer.
- Click the button to open the list for the whole funnel. On each item, Show on canvas takes you to the step.
- On the step, click the badge on the card's top edge. Amber is a warning; pink is an issue that blocks publishing. It lists only that step's issues and has the fix button when the fix happens in Clickmax: Add product, Open scripts, Open Checkout tab, or Scan again.
- Fix and save. For an external page, scan the page again after changing the site. The diagnostics update on their own.
- Click Publish. Warnings that do not block show in the publish dialog, and you can publish anyway.
Publish stays disabled while any step in the flow has an issue that breaks the buyer's path. That step gets a pink border, and hovering Publish shows what is left to fix. A step with no connections is not part of the flow: its issues show, but they do not block publishing. Metric warnings, unpublished changes, and old scans do not block either.
A step with no content yet, with no page chosen, is not checked: warnings show after you choose the page. A funnel with no issues shows no button and no badge.
What the diagnostics check
- Approved purchase with no next step: the checkout, upsell, or downsell has no approved purchase trigger connected. After paying, the buyer goes to the default Clickmax thank-you page. On a checkout this is only a warning, because ending the funnel at the checkout is valid; on an upsell or downsell it blocks publishing.
- Decline goes nowhere: the upsell or downsell has no Declined trigger connected. Also check that the page has the decline button with the
cm-funnel-declineclass. - Checkout without an offer: the external checkout, upsell, or downsell page has no offer. The checkout says there is no product registered.
- Script or checkout not detected: the last scan did not find the Clickmax script or the embedded checkout. See checkout on a page hosted elsewhere.
- Button with a payment link: a button on the external page goes straight to the offer's payment link or another platform's checkout. The purchase happens outside the funnel.
- Button outside the trigger: a button goes to the same place as one already linked to a trigger, but is not in the trigger. The click does not count in the metrics.
- Page type does not match its position: the step comes after a purchase but is a sales or capture page. Replace it with an upsell, downsell, or thank-you page.
- Unconnected step: nobody reaches it through the funnel.
- Unpublished changes and published a few minutes ago: visitors may still see the old version. External pages take a few minutes to use the new routes; test in a new private tab.
- Scan older than 7 days: if the page changed, scan it again.
If it did not work
- The payment link warning does not show on an older page: scan the page again. Scans made before this check do not store button addresses.
- I fixed the site and the warning is still there: diagnostics read the last scan. Use Scan again on the step badge.
