How do I publish to Instagram and boost the post from Clickmax?
Go to Traffic → Posts and click New post. Pick the Page, where to publish (Instagram or Facebook Page), the format, the media and the caption, then choose Now, Schedule or Draft. Once published, the post can become an ad with Boost.
Before you start
- Meta connected under Traffic → Connections, with the Page checked in the authorization. Pages show up in the Pages and Instagram profiles section — see How do I connect my ad account to Clickmax?.
- To publish to Instagram, the Page needs a linked Instagram professional profile.
- Whoever connected Meta needs permission to create content on the Page.
- A workspace role that manages the Traffic area. View-only roles see the list but not the publish buttons.
Publishing
-
Under Traffic → Posts, click New post.
-
In Page, pick the Page. Pages that cannot publish show up disabled, with the reason next to them.
-
In Where to publish, pick Instagram or Facebook Page.
-
In Format, pick Image, Carousel or Reels.
-
In Media, click Upload file on each item and pick the image (JPEG, up to 8 MB) or video (MP4 or MOV, up to 300 MB). The button shows the upload progress, and the post can only be sent once every file finishes. If the button does not show up, or if you prefer, paste a public link starting with
https://that points straight to the file: Meta downloads the media from that address at publishing time. -
Write the Caption. The counter shows characters and hashtags.
On wide screens, the Preview on the side shows the post as it appears in the Instagram or Page feed and updates as you edit. It is an approximation: Meta may crop the media depending on the app and screen.
-
In When to publish, pick Now, Schedule (with date and time) or Draft, and confirm.
The post shows up in the list with its status updating on its own: Publishing, then Published, with a View on Instagram or View on Facebook link. Reels may stay a few minutes in Publishing while Meta processes the video.
Limits
With the 24-hour limit reached, Now is refused and the screen asks you to schedule. If a scheduled post hits the limit at publishing time, it goes back to Scheduled and goes out one hour later, with nothing for you to redo.
Scheduling, editing and cancelling
- Edit changes the caption, media and time of a draft, a scheduled post or a failed post.
- Cancel schedule turns the post back into a Draft.
- Delete removes drafts and failed posts, from Clickmax only.
Unpublish
On a published post, Unpublish takes the post down:
- Facebook Page — the post is deleted from the Page. If Clickmax published it, it goes back to Draft, so you can edit and publish it again. If it came from the Page history, it leaves the list.
- Instagram — the button is called Remove from Clickmax. Instagram doesn't allow deleting posts through integrations, so the post only leaves the Clickmax list and stays live. To delete it there, use the Instagram app.
While a boost is running the button is hidden: the ad uses the post. End the boost before unpublishing.
Posts published outside Clickmax
When you connect Meta, Clickmax brings in the last 90 days of posts from each Page and its linked Instagram, up to 300 per destination, with likes, comments and shares. They show up in the list marked Published outside Clickmax and can be boosted like any published post. Those from the last 30 days get reach and views on the following reads.
To bring in right away what was published or deleted directly on Instagram or Facebook, click Refresh at the top of Posts.
Post deleted directly on Instagram or Facebook
Clickmax checks with Meta whether the post still exists: on the metric re-reads of posts from the last 30 days and whenever you click Refresh.
- A post that came from the Page history leaves the list.
- A post published by Clickmax goes back to Draft, with a notice that it was deleted outside Clickmax. You can publish it again.
- If Meta doesn't confirm the post was deleted (for example, when a permission is missing), nothing changes.
Post metrics
A few minutes after publishing, the post shows the numbers read from Instagram or the Page: Views, Reach, Likes, Comments, Shares and Saves. Hover over the numbers to see when they were read.
- In the first 2 days the numbers refresh every hour; after that, every 6 hours, up to 30 days after publishing.
- Facebook Pages have no Saves, so that metric does not show up on Page posts.
- If only likes and comments show up, reconnect Meta under Traffic → Connections and accept the insights permissions: reach and views depend on them.
- To read them right away, click Refresh next to the post's numbers. If Meta releases no numbers at all, the post says the insights permissions are missing; if the Page connection dropped or Meta refused, the message says why.
On a boost, the line under the post shows the ad's Spent so far, Impressions, Reach and Clicks.
Boosting
- On a Published post, click Boost.
- Pick the Ad account, the Daily budget, the Duration (days), the Objective (Engagement or Reach) and the audience: Countries and age range.
- Check the Ad preview on the side, with the budget, duration and audience summary, and the Estimated total spend in the footer. Click Boost.
Before sending, Clickmax checks the chosen ad account on Meta. If it has no payment method (or has an outstanding balance), or is disabled, the window warns you and offers Open Billing & payments in Ads Manager — and nothing is created in your account until that is fixed.
While a boost of the post is Creating, In review or Active, the Boost button is hidden on that post, so you do not create a second ad by mistake.
The boost shows up under the post: Creating, In review while Meta reviews the ad, then Active. Use Pause to stop spending. The campaign also shows up under Traffic → Performance after the next sync, named starting with "Clickmax ·".
If it did not work
- Failed, with the reason under the post. The text comes from Meta or from our checks. Fix it with Edit: saving with Now publishes again right away. To only fix it and publish later, save it as a Draft and use Publish now when you want.
- "Did you check before trying again?" Shows up on Try again and when saving an edit, when the last attempt may have published without Clickmax getting Meta's confirmation. Open the profile or the Page: if the post is already there, do not publish again — that would create a duplicate.
- The Page has no linked Instagram. Link the professional profile to the Page on Meta and click Refresh Pages under Traffic → Connections.
- The Meta connection for the Page expired or was undone. Reconnect Meta under Traffic → Connections.
- Meta took too long to process the video. Check that the link opens the video directly (not a page) and try again.
- The ad account has no valid payment method. Add a card or another method under Billing & payments in Ads Manager (the link comes in the message) and boost again.
- Boost Rejected. Meta rejected the ad in review. The detailed reason is in Meta's Ads Manager.
