  • How do I restore a file from the Drive trash?

Open Trash in the Drive menu, find the item and click Restore. It goes back to the folder it came from (the Original location column shows which). If the original folder was deleted too, the item returns to the root of the space.

    Before you start

    • Editor or Owner role in the item’s space. The screen says so: Items in the trash are permanently deleted after 30 days. Only space owners and editors can restore them.
    • In My drive you can always restore what you deleted yourself.

    Step by step

    1. In the Drive menu, click Trash.
    2. Find the item using the Name, Original location, Deleted by and Deleted on columns.
    3. Click Restore on the item’s row.

The Permanent deletion column shows how long is left ("In 17 days", "Tomorrow"). Items close to the deadline are highlighted — restore them before the countdown ends.

Delete for good and free up space

While in the trash, the item still counts toward the workspace storage quota. To free up space now:

    • Delete permanently (the trash icon on the row) removes a single item.
    • Empty trash (at the top) removes everything in it.

Both actions are irreversible: a permanently deleted item cannot be recovered. After 30 days in the trash, permanent deletion happens on its own, without warning.

What does not go to the trash

Files in the Platform folder (page images, form attachments, message media) are not deleted through the Drive — they belong to their originating area. To remove them, do it in the area that created them.
