  • How do I make the automation only continue within business hours?

On the Timer step, turn on Only continue within business hours and pick the calendar. If the wait ends outside that calendar's hours — in the middle of the night, on a Sunday — the contact stays on the Timer and the next step only runs when the calendar opens again.

Example: in a cadence that sends a template on D1, D3 and D5, a contact who came in at 3 a.m. would get every message at 3 a.m. With the Timer tied to an 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. calendar, each message goes out within that window.

    Before you start

    • Workspace role: anyone who already edits automations.
    • A business-hours calendar set up in the workspace. With none, the option shows off and disabled, with the notice No business hours set up in this workspace yet.

    Steps

    1. On the automation canvas, click the Timer card to open its settings. On a new Timer (added with +), click Define timer.
    2. In the Type step, pick the kind of wait and click Continue. The option works for every kind: Time from now, Specific date and time, Relative to an appointment and Relative to a date field.
    3. Set up the wait as usual.
    4. Turn on Only continue within business hours. The workspace's main calendar comes selected.
    5. To use another one, open the Choose the business hours list and pick the calendar.
    6. Click Close and publish the automation.

Repeat on every Timer of the cadence that must respect business hours: the option only applies to the Timer where it was turned on.

    What happens to the wait

    • The wait ends within business hours: nothing changes, the next step runs at the calculated time.
    • The wait ends outside business hours: the next step waits for the calendar's next opening.
    • The chosen calendar was deleted: the Timer continues at the calculated time, without considering business hours. Open the Timer and pick another calendar.

    If it didn't work

    • The option is off and won't turn on: the workspace has no business-hours calendar. Set one up and come back to the Timer.
    • The message went out outside business hours: check that the option is on in this Timer (each one has its own), that the chosen calendar still exists and that the automation was published after the change.
