  • What the contact's email validation status means

The platform checks whether each contact's email exists and is safe to receive messages. The result shows as a badge on the contact page, as the Status e-mail column in specialist mode, and as the Status do e-mail filter in segments. Every email lands in one of four statuses: Valid, Invalid, Risky or Unverified.

Prerequisite: a role with access to Contacts.

    The four statuses

    StatusWhat it meansWhat to do
ValidThe address receives email. How firmly that was confirmed depends on how the check ran — see Two levels of confirmation.Nothing — send normally.
InvalidThe address does not receive email (it does not exist, has a bad format, or the domain does not accept mail).Fix the email on the contact or exclude it from your sends. Sending tends to bounce and hurts sender reputation.
RiskyThe address receives email, but delivery is risky: disposable email, a domain that accepts any address (catch-all), a role address (e.g. contact@) or similar.Review case by case. Sending remains allowed — the call is yours.
UnverifiedThe email has not been checked yet.Wait for the automatic check or validate manually from the contact menu.

Hover over the badge to see the reason for the status and the verification date.

    Two levels of confirmation

A Valid email can have been confirmed in two ways, and the contact history tells you which one:

    LevelWhat was confirmedWhen it happens
DomainThe domain accepts email and is not disposable. Whether that specific mailbox exists was not checked. On the automatic check.
MailboxThe destination server confirmed that the mailbox exists. On manual validation, from the contact menu.

The difference matters: on a real domain, a mistyped address can come back Valid from the automatic check, because the domain does accept mail. When you need certainty about a specific contact — before sending a proposal, say — use Validate email now from the contact menu.

The automatic check deliberately stops at the domain: it runs over the whole database, and that kind of bulk lookup makes the large providers start refusing the checks, which would degrade the result for everyone.

    When verification happens

    • Automatically: the platform verifies pending emails gradually throughout the day, prioritizing contacts with an open opportunity, contacts in lists, and the most recently created ones.
    • When the email is edited: changing a contact's email resets the status to Unverified and triggers a new check.
    • Manually: on the contact page, open the menu and click Validate email now.

    Where the history lives

Each verification becomes an entry in the contact's history, with the result, the reason and the address that was checked at that moment. Because the address is stored on the entry itself, the history stays accurate even after the contact changes their email.

An attempt with no result also becomes an entry, noting that the status did not change and that automatic verification will try again later. Automatic verification records it once per run of attempts, not on every retry; manual validation records it every time you click and no result comes back.

After several attempts with no answer, automatic verification stops for that contact, and giving up becomes an entry of its own — from then on only manual validation returns a result.

    Warning before an email broadcast

When building an email broadcast, if the audience has contacts with an invalid, risky or unverified email, a warning appears next to the recipient count with the total in each situation.

Sending is not blocked. To clean up the broadcast, check Exclude invalid and unverified from this send — those contacts are left out of that broadcast. Contacts with a Risky email still receive it.

    Filter contacts by status

The Status do e-mail filter is available in the segment builder and in the contact list filters. A segment like "Email status is Valid" keeps your campaigns restricted to verified addresses.

    If it did not work

    • The status did not change after validating manually — the verification service may be temporarily unavailable. The contact stays Unverified and the automatic check retries later.
    • Contact without an email — there is nothing to verify; the badge does not appear and the Validate email now action is hidden.
