How to transfer a WhatsApp number to another workspace
You can move a WhatsApp number from one workspace to another without reconnecting it on Meta and without needing the SIM card to receive a code. The destination workspace has to accept the request, and the number keeps working in the source workspace until it does.
Before you start
- Only the owner and admins of the source workspace request the transfer, and only the owner and admins of the destination accept or decline it.
- It works for WhatsApp connections made through Clickmax (active or deactivated). It does not apply to Instagram, Telegram, email or the unofficial WhatsApp.
- The destination must be an active workspace. To find its ID, open the destination workspace settings and copy the workspace ID.
What moves and what stays
The destination starts from scratch: no conversations and no agents. After acceptance, the connection no longer exists in the source workspace. A transfer cannot be undone.
Request the transfer (source workspace)
- Go to Settings → Connections and open the account detail.
- At the bottom, under Transfer to another workspace, click Transfer connection.
- Paste the destination workspace ID. When the workspace is found, its name appears.
- Click Continue and review the impact: how many flows will be closed, how many broadcasts cancelled, how many agents lose access and how many open conversations will be closed.
- Type the destination workspace name to confirm and click Send transfer request.
The connection card now shows Waiting for acceptance. To back out before there is an answer, click Cancel request.
While the request is pending the number keeps working normally, but you cannot deactivate, delete, sync or change the usage permissions of the connection. This keeps the account from changing while the destination decides.
Accept or decline (destination workspace)
- Go to Settings → Connections. The Pending transfers section lists the requests received, with the workspace that sent them and who made the request. The workspace owner also gets a notification.
- Click Accept and confirm with Accept transfer. The connection shows up in your list right away.
- To decline, click Decline, add a reason if you like and confirm with Decline transfer.
Whoever requested the transfer gets a notification with the result.
Deadline and common errors
- A request is valid for 7 days. After that it expires and can no longer be accepted. Just request it again.
- "We could not find an active workspace with that ID": check that the ID was copied in full and that the destination workspace is active.
- "There is already a pending transfer request": each connection has at most one request at a time. Cancel the current one to make another.
- "This connection cannot be transferred in its current state": the connection was archived, removed or lost its link with WhatsApp. Reconnect it before requesting.
- If the connection is archived or deleted while the request is pending, the request fails and nothing is created in the destination.
