  • How do I sell a product as a subscription?

A subscription changes the nature of the business: the sale does not end at the payment, it starts again every month. What decides the outcome is not the initial conversion, it is how long the customer stays.

    Before you start

    • Role: Owner or Admin.
    • Seller registration completed.
    • Decide what the subscriber loses when the subscription ends — that changes how you build the delivery.

    1. Set up the recurring offer

Create the subscription offer on the product. In the payment method, Monthly recurrence means you receive the payment every month, after each payment — unlike Single value, where you receive the full payment in the first month even if the customer splits it on the card.

    2. Tie delivery to the subscription status

If the subscriber consumes content, deliver it through the members area: access follows the entitlement to the product, so anyone who cancels stops having access without you doing anything by hand.

    3. Track the subscriptions

In Sales, My Subscriptions shows which recurring charges are active, overdue and cancelled. The status is the health dashboard of the business — not the month's revenue.

    4. Handle failed charges

Recurring billing fails for mundane reasons: an expired card, the credit limit, the bank. Build an automation on the When renewal fails trigger that warns the customer, with practical instructions on how to update their details.

Recovering a subscriber who dropped out because of an expired card is far cheaper than winning a new one.

    5. Cancellations

When a recurring subscription is cancelled, the customer keeps access until the end of the period already paid for and loses it afterwards. The action is irreversible, so confirm with the customer first.

    If it didn't work

    • The charge did not repeat: check the status under My Subscriptions and the offer's payment method.
    • The customer cancelled and still has access: they keep access until the end of the period already paid for.
    • The customer paid but got no access: review the deliverable in Products.
