How do I recover people who abandoned the checkout?
Whoever abandoned the checkout is the warmest audience you have: they already chose the product and got as far as the payment screen. Recovering them is a matter of spotting them fast and speaking on the right channel.
Before you start
- Role: Owner, Admin or Editor.
- You need at least one active channel in Messaging.
- The offer has to be on the Clickmax checkout — with an external checkout the abandonment happens elsewhere and you cannot see it.
1. Find who abandoned
The Sales area has a Sales Recovery view, which gathers everything that did not close — abandoned carts and declined payments. These are different situations and deserve different messages:
2. Split them into a segment
Create a segment with these contacts. A segment, not a static list — you want the person to leave the group automatically once they buy.
3. Build the sequence
Create the recovery automation. Timing is what matters: the first message is worth most in the first few hours, while the intent is still fresh.
A sequence that works well: a quick reminder, then an objection removed, then a final notice with a deadline. No more than that — insistence turns an abandonment into an unsubscribe.
4. Choose the channel carefully
WhatsApp converts better and burns out faster. If you use it, respect the limits described in safe bulk sending. Email is safer at volume; see email nurture sequence.
5. Close the loop
Make sure anyone who buys leaves the sequence immediately. Still getting "you forgot something" after paying is the mistake that generates the most complaints in this flow.
