How do I work abandoned carts with human follow-up?
Automation recovers low-ticket abandonments. On a high ticket, what recovers the sale is a person — and for that the abandonment has to become an opportunity with an owner, not just an automatic send.
Before you start
- Role: Owner, Admin or Editor to set it up; attendants work the opportunities.
- Set up the basic automation first: abandoned cart recovery.
- Have the pipeline working: build your first pipeline.
1. Decide the cut-off
It is not worth sending an attendant after every abandonment. Define a criterion — cart value, product or lead source — that separates what deserves human contact from what stays with the automation.
2. Create the stage in the pipeline
Add a stage of its own for recovery. Mixing abandonments in with new leads makes the attendant treat both the same way, and they are very different situations: someone who abandoned has already chosen the product.
3. Distribute the work
Assign the recovery opportunities to whoever is going to work them — see attendant assignment. An opportunity with no owner does not get worked.
4. Give the attendant context
Before making contact, the attendant should open the contact profile: what the person tried to buy, where they came from, what they have already received. A generic approach to someone who abandoned reads like a debt collection call.
5. Record the outcome
Recovered: advance the opportunity and record the sale. Not recovered: Mark as lost with the Loss reason. The reason here usually exposes a price or a checkout problem — information that improves the whole offer. See lost opportunity.
6. Close the loop with the automation
Make sure anyone who has entered human follow-up drops out of the automatic sequence. Receiving a "you left something behind" message in the middle of a conversation with a salesperson destroys your credibility with that contact.

If it didn't work
- No abandonment shows up at all: the offer has to use the Clickmax checkout.
- The attendant cannot see the opportunity: review the assignment and their role.
- The customer received automated messages during the conversation: the flow is missing the condition that takes them out of the sequence.
