How do I split revenue with a coproducer?
Coproduction is not the same thing as affiliation. An affiliate earns on the sales they bring in; a coproducer takes part in the product itself — usually because they deliver part of the content, the structure or the investment — and receives a percentage of every sale.
Before you start
- Role: Owner or Admin.
- Agree the deal before you configure anything: the percentage, what each side delivers and how long it holds.
- The coproducer needs a Clickmax account and their own seller registration.
1. Work out the percentages
Add everything up before configuring: your share, the coproducer's share and the affiliate commission. The combined coproduction shares cannot exceed 80%, and it is common to discover too late that the total leaves no margin once fees are taken.
2. Set up the coproduction
Follow coproduction commissions to add the coproducer to the product on the Coproduction tab and define the split.
3. Confirm the coproducer's prerequisites
They need their own seller registration completed — see seller registration. Without it there is nowhere to send their share, and the row stays on Awaiting registration or Awaiting activation instead of Active.
4. Test with one sale
Make a test purchase and confirm the split happened as agreed. Discovering a percentage error after a hundred sales is an awkward conversation.
5. Agree how they follow the numbers
Decide how the coproducer keeps track of sales — what they can see depends on their role in the workspace. See who can do what.
6. Agree the ending too
Coproductions end: the deal changes, someone leaves. Decide from the start what happens to past sales and to subscriptions still running when the partnership finishes. Bear in mind that removing a coproducer is irreversible — the same person cannot be added back to that product.
