  • How do I set up an upsell and a downsell after the purchase?

The post-purchase sequence uses the one moment when the customer already trusts you and their payment details are already on file. An upsell is the bigger offer shown right after the purchase; a downsell is the cheaper alternative for whoever turned the upsell down.

    Before you start

    • Role: Owner, Admin or Editor.
    • The main offer has to use the Clickmax checkout — that is what enables buying with a single click.
    • Have the upsell and downsell products already registered in Products.

    1. Design the sequence before you build it

The sequence is a chain of pages with two paths at every node:

    PageAccepted →Declined →
    Main offer (checkout)UpsellUpsell
    UpsellThank YouDownsell
    DownsellThank YouThank You

Drawing this first avoids the most common mistake: the customer landing on the thank-you page before ever seeing the next offer.

    2. Create the pages in the funnel

Add the upsell, downsell and thank-you steps to the same funnel as the main offer, and connect them following the table above.

    3. Turn on one-click buy

With the Clickmax checkout, the buyer accepts the upsell without typing their details again. That is what makes the sequence work — if every step asks for the card again, conversion collapses.

    4. Protect the post-purchase pages

Upsell, downsell and thank-you pages should not open for people who have not bought. Under Funnel Settings → Redirects, Post-purchase page protection blocks direct access; each page can inherit that rule or define its own under Page Settings → Access.

Without it the link leaks and people reach the upsell without having bought the main offer.

    5. Test the whole sequence

Walk the flow as a real buyer: accept the upsell in one test, decline it in another, and confirm both paths end on the thank-you page with access released.

    If it didn't work

    • The customer has to type the card again on the upsell: confirm the main offer uses the Clickmax checkout.
    • Someone reached the upsell without buying: turn on post-purchase page protection.
    • Refunding a sale that had a sequence: the refund cancels the entire sale, order bumps included — items cannot be refunded separately.
