  • How do I run a limited-time promotional campaign?

A promotion only works if the deadline is real. The classic mistake is to create a coupon with no expiry, promote it as "today only" and leave it active for months — the audience learns to wait for the discount and the full price stops selling.

    Before you start

    • Role: Owner, Admin or Editor.
    • Decide the start and end dates before you create anything.
    • Work out your margin with the discount applied, fees already deducted.

    1. Create the coupon with an expiry

Set up the coupon with a real expiry date — turn on Set expiration period and fill in the End date. If you have a usage cap in mind, set it on the coupon under Usage Limits rather than policing it by hand.

Alternative: instead of a coupon, create a separate offer at the promotional price. That separates promotional revenue from normal revenue in your reports, which makes it easier to measure afterwards.

    2. Prepare the communication

Pick out who should receive it with a segment. Not every campaign should go to the whole database — someone who bought yesterday at full price and gets a discount today will ask for a refund.

    3. Promote it

Send it as a broadcast, respecting the limits described in safe bulk sending.

On the page, the countdown must reflect the coupon's real expiry date.

    4. Actually close it

On the final date: expire the coupon, take the communication down and adjust the page. A promotion that is still reachable after the deadline destroys the credibility of the next one.

    5. Measure

In Sales, compare revenue and order count for the period against an equivalent period without a promotion. Volume going up while revenue goes down means you discounted too far — see reconcile sales.

    If it didn't work

    • The coupon will not apply: review its validity period and rules in Coupons.
    • The campaign sold very little: check the segmentation, and whether the offer reached people with genuine interest.
    • Refund requests from people who bought earlier: consider extending the discount to those buyers.
